4293 Le Fek Road, Mamette Lake, BC (seasonal access)
Located between Merritt and Logan Lake approximately 8 km off of the Mamette Lake Road, this 160-acre parcel offers panoramic views and landscape rich with wild life. Completely off the grid, with no neighbours and direct access to Crown land. Close to the property (Le Fek) is the Mamit Lake, sometimes spelled Mamette Lake, is a medium-sized lake located in the Thompson-Nicola region, approximately 12 km from Logan Lake. It is situated along Highway 97C between Merritt and Logan Lake, making it easily visible from the road. Mamit Lake is renowned for its fishing opportunities, particularly for rainbow trout. The best fishing is typically between June and August, coinciding with heavy hatches of chironomids. In winter, ice fishing is popular from mid-January to mid-March.
The vegetation around the Le Fek property is characteristic of the interior of British Columbia, particularly the Thompson-Nicola region. The area's plant life is influenced by its mountainous terrain, the climate, and its proximity to both the southern Okanagan and northern Fraser Plateau. The lower elevations around Mamit Lake are often dominated by ponderosa pine. These trees are well adapted to the dry conditions of the region, and their bark is a distinctive reddish color. Along with ponderosa pines, you'll often find Douglas fir and lodgepole pine trees.
At higher elevations, the vegetation transitions to denser forests dominated by western red cedar and western hemlock. These trees thrive in the moister, cooler conditions found at higher altitudes. Trembling aspen trees are also common in the area, particularly in areas that have experienced disturbance, such as areas affected by wildfire or areas with more moisture.
In the more arid lower slopes and open areas, you’ll find shrubs like manzanita and saskatoon berry. The latter produces edible berries and is often found in open areas or forest clearings. At higher elevations and in more acidic soils, you'll find huckleberry bushes and lingonberry, which are common in mountainous terrain and thrive in more acidic, well-drained soils.
Along streams and in the moister sections of the forest, you'll find a range of ferns, mosses, and lichen growing on the forest floor and trees.
The region also has a variety of wildflowers, particularly in the spring and summer. Species like lupines, Indian paintbrush, and balsamroot can be found in meadows and open spaces at higher altitudes.
Near Mamit Lake and along the surrounding streams, you might encounter wetland vegetation, including sedges, rushes, and willows. These plants thrive in the moist environments around the water.
As you ascend in elevation, particularly towards the higher alpine zones near Rey Lake and the Le Fek acreage you'll find alpine vegetation, which includes alpine grasses, wildflowers, and low-growing shrubs. These areas may include dwarf willows, low shrubs, and small mosses that are adapted to colder and harsher conditions.
