Recreation :

Hiking
West Fraser Historic Trail
This trail originally went from Big Bar to Lillooet - the First Nations people led Simon Fraser along this route as they used it as an alternative to the river below with it's dangerous rapids. You will see prickly pear cactus, sage, old growth fir, and much more, views are magnificent. Lots of wildlife as evidenced by the amount of scat.

Camelshoof Peak
The West Pavilion area is wild country - black bears and grizzly bears. If you are hiking in the area, be sure to exercise all the usual bear precautions and know what to do if you encounter bears on the trail.

Camping
Leon Creek Recreational Site
A very small, 1 vehicle site mostly used by hunters. Directly adjacent to Leon Creek. Suitable for small truck campers or tenters. Located north of Lillooet. Drive to the 52.5 kilometre mark along the West Pavilion Forest Service Road. Turn left onto the Leon Creek Road and drive about 8.1 kilometres. Turn right and drive about 60 metres to the site.

Hunting
Respect the private land and follow the hunting restrictions. Lots of wildlife out there but few areas to legally hunt in.

Vegetation :

The Pavilion Ranges Ecosection is a mountainous upland area that is transitional with the Coast Ranges to the west and the plateau surface to the east. The Fraser and Thompson Rivers have dissected the upland surface. The Bunchgrass and Ponderosa Pine Zones predominate the lower mountain slopes upland surface.

Throughout the Lillooet area, historic West Pavilion, Bridge River, Yalakom, Fountain and Texas Creek farms and ranches are rising to meet a growing demand for healthy food. Local organic vegetables, fruits, garlic, honey, eggs and poultry are available in local shops or at the Lillooet Farmer's Market every Friday on Main Street from May through to October.

Area Data : Dessert climate - hot and dry in the summer months and “usually” little snow in the winter, but for the past few years there has been more precipitation in the area.
