It is about a 3.5-hour drive from Campbell River.
Cachalot is on the south shore of Cachalot Inlet in Kyuquot Sound 85 km southeast of Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. There was a whaling station from 1907 to 1924 established by Sprott Balcom and the Pacific Whaling Co. In 1926 it was converted to a pilchard (Pacific sardine) reduction plant by the Wallace Bros. and operated for another 10 years. More whales were landed here than anywhere else in BC.
