Outdoor recreation and activities are endless in the Chilcotin. You can enjoy fishing the rivers or lakes for Dolly Varden and trout, or view one of the largest annual runs of sockeye salmon in British Columbia on Chilko River. Every year, from mid-August to mid-October, hundreds of thousands of salmon return to their spawning grounds. During this time you can always enjoy viewing the massive grizzly bears and their families as they come out to feast on the spawning salmon. Clearwater Lake, Nimpo Lake and One Eye Lake are all very close by with government campsites and excellent rainbow trout fishing.


You can also experience the Chilcotin on horseback, the way it was meant to be seen. There are endless areas to trail ride and explore.


Tatla Lake is the hub for the huge surrounding area that includes Westbranch and the Tatlayoko Valley. Tatla and area began with ranching which is very evident as you travel through lush fields and pastures and past the Chilcotin fences. The community members of Tatla Lake are very proactive and participate in many activities year-round including cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and other local sponsored events. The area is also known for its many tour operators that offer anything from ranch vacations, trail rides, fishing trips, hiking, wildlife viewing or hunting.

The area is home to many original pioneer families who still run cattle both on the open range and their own ranches. The property lies between Kleena Kleene and Tatla Lake. The community of Tatla Lake is the hub for the surrounding inhabitants. There is a school (grades 1 to 10), a health centre. First Aid Post, RCMP post, restaurant and accommodations.


The Chilcotin area is essentially backcountry at its best complete with some of the best fishing lakes and rivers to be found in North America. The ranchland and farmland around Kleena Kleene is well suited to cattle and horse production.
