Topley has their own Volunteer Fire Department and Community Club Association and hall. The community of Topley with surrounding area has about 500 people approx. The community was named after William J. Topley, Topley was founded by Mr. W.C. Lett just after the Canadian National Railway was finished. Mr. W.C. Lett named Topley after his, father-in-law, Mr. W.F.Topley, who was a photographer in Ottawa, Ontario at the time. Mr. W.F Topley never actually came to Topley.
